05/07/2017: Mayor Mashaba to launch R16.4 million Diepsloot Pedestrian Bridge Project

Tomorrow, 06 July 2017, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Cllr Herman Mashaba and MMC for Transport, Cllr Nonhlanhla Makhuba, will officially launch the construction of the Diepsloot Pedestrian Bridge worth R16.4 million, to ensure residents are safe-guarded during flash flooding.

Thedevelopment of the bridge forms part of the City’s efforts to improve stormwater management and minimise urban and residential flooding.

This follows the Executive Mayor’s announcement of the City’s 2016/17 Adjustment Budget, where the Johannesburg Roads Agency received additional funding towards addressing road and related infrastructure backlogs.

Thedecades-long neglect of infrastructure maintenance means that there is still a huge mountain to climb to effectively address our City’s ageing roads and infrastructure challenges.

However, this administration is committed to addressing the City’s challenges for the benefit of all our residents. Join Mayor Mashaba and MMC Makhuba for a sod turning ceremony to launch this project.

Theevent will take place as follows: Date: Thursday, 06 July 2017 Time: 11:00am Venue: 972 South Avenue (Opposite the Holiness Christian Revival Ministries, Diepsloot West) Parking: Diepsloot Fire Station, 897 Ingonyama Street, Diepsloot West (members of the media will be directed to the exact site location from parking) There will be photo and interview opportunities.
