10/07/2017: Joburg delivers title deeds to the residents of Braamfischerville
As part of the new administration’s 10-point plan to fast-track housing delivery within the City and reverse the poor service delivery experienced by residents under the previous administrations, I am pleased to announce that 253 title deeds will be delivered to the residents of Braamfischerville.
The delivery of these title deeds is part of the new administration’s 10-point plan to fast track housing delivery within the City and bring many of our residents, and their loved ones, the dignity which comes with owning a home.
During the tabling of the 2017/18 Budget, it was announced that the City has allocated an operating budget of R152 million and a multi-year capital budget of R1.9 billion to fund the Johannesburg Social Housing Company’s (JOSHCO) purchase of buildings within the inner City.
These buildings will be used for low cost rental stock that will house a further 1164 families.
The City has also allocated R2 million for the construction of homeless shelters throughout Johannesburg to address the challenge of homelessness. Our reality is that the City faces a housing backlog of over 300 000 units - the highest in the country while experiencing ever decreasing grants from national and provincial government for the provision of housing, to progressively deal with this we have allocated R66 million towards our shift to focus on the Site and Service housing development approach.
This involves the provision of fully serviced plots of land, onto which beneficiaries can be settled.
Additionally, following consultations with the MEC of Human Settlements, Mr Paul Mashatile, I am delighted by provincial government’s commitment to an additional R147 million to the City’s housing budget, which will increase the grant to R292 million.
I am committed to continued partnership with provincial government in order to improve the quality of life and the dignity of our people.
I will continue to work tirelessly to deliver the change the people of Johannesburg have demanded.
