11/07/2017: Soweto Country Club upgrades gains momentum

The City of Johannesburg in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Government, Sunshine Tour and the private sector have embarked on an exciting project of upgrading the Soweto Country Club situated in Pimville, Soweto, for the benefit of all residents of Soweto and the surrounding areas.
This project is done in three (3) phases, namely:

Phase 1: Refurbishment of the clubhouse (already completed);
Phase 2: Fencing of the golf course (just started);
Phase 3: Upgrading of the golf course.

This decision to refurbish this facility was informed by the City’s objective to change the face of golf in Johannesburg and take the big tournaments to the people irrespective of the class.

The City hopes that an improved Golf facility in Soweto will lead to more golfers being unearthed and an improved golfing experience for tourist and community members.

The progress to be noted thus far regarding the upgrades includes:

• A Clear Vu fence has been installed on Mokaka Street and around neighbouring flats.

• The Sunshine Tour will assist the City in building walls around the golf club to ensure optimum security of the facility.

• Furthermore the Sunshine Tour will be adding a hall at the back of the facility with partitions to be used for future events and functions.

• Through various engagement forums with members of the Community, City Parks and Pikitup have committed to trimming trees for security purposes and grade the area between the golf course and the flats.

The community will be kept up to speed with progress being made in this regard.
