17/08/2017: Mayor Mashaba takes A Re Sebetseng to the Newtown Cultural Precinct

Tomorrow, Mayor Herman Mashaba, alongside the MMC of Community Development, Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba will be hosting the Newtown Cultural Precinct’s leg of the City’s A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign, following its official launch by Mayor Mashaba on Monday.
The A Re Sebetseng clean-up campaign will be carried out across all the City’s wards on the last Saturday of every month.

A Re Sebetseng is modelled on the Rwanda Umaganda, which is also a monthly campaign where all residents come together to clean their City. Through the campaign, the City of Kigali is now known as the cleanest in Africa.

The Newtown Cultural Precinct’s leg of the campaign will be a build up to the Department of Community Development’s Heritage Month activities, coming up in September.

Residents are more than welcome to join, and are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes, shoes and hats. Refreshments will be served before the clean-up, and water will be made available to those participating in the clean-up campaign. Gloves and plastic bags will also be supplied.

We are looking forward to seeing residents come out in their numbers, taking ownership of their City and supporting this campaign to clean our environment.

The event will take place as follows:

Date: Friday, 18 August 2017
Time: 08:30am for 09:00am for registration. The event will end at 11:00am
Venue: Mary Fitzgerald Square, 120 Lilian Ngoyi St, Newtown, Johannesburg, 2113

There will be photo and interview opportunities.
