20/03/2017 City arrests two allegedly corrupt JMPD officers
I have seen video footage of suspected fraudulent activity by JMPD officials in a patrol vehicle, after the video were shared on social media and reported to me by various residents.
The video is believed to have been recorded around 11:24 on Saturday, 18 March 2017, near Albertina Sisulu Street at Bez Valley. The video shows two unknown men emptying their pockets to the officials inside the JMPD patrol vehicle.
After seeing the shocking footage, I requested senior JMPD officials to trace the patrol vehicle and the officers involved. The JMPD Internal Affairs team and senior directors worked around the clock to investigate the incidence.
The two officers involved were arrested yesterday morning, Sunday 19 March 2017, and taken to the Jeppe Police Station where they are detained. They are facing charges of corruption and will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrates Court today (Monday, 20 March 2017). The two officers also face internal disciplinary processes and will be dismissed if found guilty.
Corruption is public enemy number one and will not be tolerated.
Our Department is mandated with the mammoth task of keeping the residents of this city safe.
There is no place in the Department of Public Safety for any Metro Police officer or member of the Department who are found to be involved with criminal activities.
