Four suspects arrested for robbery and murder in Hillbrow

Yesterday, I was alerted to video footage on Twitter showcasing four criminals forcefully robbing a resident in Twist Street, in Hillbrow.

I have since been informed that the incident took place on 24 November, and that all four suspects were arrested by the police on 25 November on charges of robbery.

The suspects were held at the Hillbrow SAPS Station, and are believed to be linked to other cases, including murder.

Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba, have personally committed to make the inner city a safe place for all residents, students, business owners and visitors. The Department of Public Safety will ensure that this vision is realised as quickly as possible.

The vicinity around Twist Street have a history of this form of muggings, and I have requested that the Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) increase visible policing as well as patrols in the area.

I wish to commend the swift action taken by the police in apprehending these criminals.

The City remains committed to fighting crime plaguing our communities, and we will do everything in our power to ensure that criminals cannot rest in Johannesburg and that residents are kept safe.
