City to induct additional 1500 JMPD officers

On Wednesday, 18 October 2017, Executive Mayor Cllr Herman Mashaba, and MMC for Public Safety, Cllr Michael Sun, will welcome an additional 1500 officers to the Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).
Mayor Mashaba’s administration is serious about clamping down on lawlessness in Johannesburg. In November 2016, the City’s launched its K9-Unit, which have yielded many successful busts to date, and in the 2017/18 budget, R131 million were allocated towards increased JMPD visibility in crime hotspots. This budget is also being utilised for the recruitment and training of the additional 1500 officers.

By working together, we can root out crime, which denies communities of their right to live in safe environments, free from fear.

Members of the media are requested to RSVP by 16:00 on Tuesday, 17 October 2017.

Date: Wednesday, 18 October 2017
