City welcomes court judgement concerning JMPD officer found guilty of corruption
The City’s Public Safety Department welcomes the decision by the Roodepoort Magistrates Court that one of our JMPD officials, Officer Nkgoape Lydia Matsapola, be sentenced to three years imprisonment with the option of paying a fine of R5000 for accepting a R100 bribe. The sentence was pronounced yesterday.
Officer Matsapola was found guilty of accepting a bribe and failing to charge an undercover agent of the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit for driving without a valid license disc.
This incident occurred during a sting operation on 27 March 2016. She also received a five year suspended sentence provided she is not found guilty of a similar offense. The magistrate further found her unfit to carry a firearm.
As the Department of Safety, we will not tolerate any form of bribery and corruption in our ranks.
