Tip-off leads to arrest of five suspects for theft and damage to property

The Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) arrested five suspects on Friday, for theft and malicious damage to property.
The arrests were made following a tip-off received from Inner City Stakeholders in the form of video footage.

The footage I received showcased the suspects damaging and dismantling metal roof sheets from a building in Rissik Street. I immediately alerted JMPD and the five suspects were arrested on the scene.

As part of Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba’s Inner City Rejuvenation Programme, the Department of Public Safety have been working closely with Inner City Stakeholders, such as property owners, business managers and development forums.

I would like to commend the sterling joint effort by the community and JMPD.

This kind of active citizenry will enable the City, residents and businesses to collectively turn the Inner City around. Furthermore, through government and community working together, we are able to rid our streets of criminals and ensure that residents are safe.
