JMPD to welcome 215 new graduates

Today, Executive Mayor Cllr Herman Mashaba and MMC for Public Safety, Cllr Michael Sun, will welcome 215 graduate officers to the Joburg Metro Police Department (JMPD).
The majority of the 215 JMPD officers graduating today are previous members of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP); and the City will also welcome 10 Eastern Cape officers, and eigh Randfontein officers who have received training here in Johannesburg, and who will go on to police their areas effectively.
Earlier this year the Department of Public Safety welcomed 117 officers to JMPD, and an additional 1500 officers are in the process of undergoing training.

The 215 graduates have completed an 18-month training programme, and we look forward to dispatching them on the streets of Johannesburg to enforce by-laws, manage traffic and assist in crime-prevention efforts.

Mayor Mashaba and MMC Sun will be joined by MMC for Health and Social Development, Dr Mpho Phalatse, and Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Deliwe de Lange.

Members of the media are invited to attend.
