Mayor Mashaba commemorates one year anniversary of extended operating hours at Princess Clinic
Tomorrow, Tuesday 31st October, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Cllr Herman Mashaba, will commemorate the one year anniversary of the launch of the extended hours at Princess Clinic in Roodepoort, Region C.
This government has committed to being pro-poor, and ensuring that none of our residents have to choose between work or school and their health. Due to the success of the pilot project at Princess Clinic, the extended hours were rolled out to five other clinics in the City, namely:
• Freedom Park Clinic;
• Hikinsile Clinic;
• Randburg Clinic;
• Zandspruit Clinic; and
• Albert Street clinic.
The extension of service hours at these clinics entailed that clinics went from being open for only eight hours, to 15 hours per day – Monday to Friday. The Saturday service hours are from 07h00 to 13h00, which added another total of 5.5 hours.
The operating hours at Princess Clinic as from the 1st November 2016 are thus: Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 22:00, and on Saturdays from 07:30 to 13:30.
In line with the integrated extended services package at the clinic, a social worker was employed to focus on rendering social development services and ensure linkages with internal and external stakeholders for referral purposes. The operational hours are from 11:00 to 19:00 to improve access for working customers. The focus is on community development and community mobilisation with emphasis on providing the following:
• Psycho-social support;
• Skills Development;
• Food Security;
• Substance abuse prevention.
The extended clinic hours have gone a long way in ensuring that our residents have access to quality healthcare without compromising their livelihoods.
