Departments of Safety and Higher Education join forces to orientate incumbent students
Between 19 and 20 January 2018, the Joburg Public Safety Department, in collaboration with the Department of Higher Education and Training, is embarking on initiatives to welcome and orientate new students attending institutions of higher learning in the City of Johannesburg.
The initiatives include an array of safety and survival tips, safe routes to take after hours, information on City by-laws pertaining to off-campus accommodation, public drinking, drugs, gender safety, transportation, mental health support and hot-spots to avoid when navigating the City.
As part of the orientation, both Departments will also inform and educate students and parents about bogus colleges and unregistered educational institutions which mushroom within the City, especially this time of year.
These institutions rob young people and parents of their valuable time and hard earned money by promising pipe dreams of qualifications which are illegal and have no value.
This innovative multi-organisational initiative is our commitment to ensuring that public safety evolves within the City of Joburg.
We want to welcome our new young residents from out-of-town and at the same time ensure they can safely study and achieve their dreams.
During this event, the Departments will also distribute information on legal educational institutions and provide assistance to students where possible.
If JMPD and SAPS should find any illegal activities, especially by bogus institutions, swift actions will be taken against the culprits.
