Property Kingpin case – Another property reclaimed from hijackers
Access to the property was prohibited due to Mr Jonathan Constable colluding with the tenants of the previous owner of the property, encouraging them not to cooperate with the new owner, Ms Mbatha.
The news that Mr Jonathan Constable has been denied bail after his arrest on 29 December 2017 for a case of similar circumstances, led to the occupiers’ change of heart. Subsequent to this, the illegal occupiers decided to cooperate with the City and the South African Police Service (SAPS) investigators to facilitate the restoration of control of the property to Ms Mbatha.
It is essential that we bring back the rule of law in our City and take it back from the criminal elements such as landlords who take advantage of desperate people and house them under deplorable conditions.
As the City, we are committed to providing quality low cost affordable housing to our residents. We cannot allow property hijackers to continue to rob our residents of opportunities for creating this quality housing. We cannot allow property hijackers to condemn our residents to living in undignified conditions.
That is why we will continue to be vigorous in assisting our law enforcement authorities to not only capture these criminals but to also ensure that they are subjected to the full might of the law.
