Today, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Housing in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Meshack Van Wyk, was prevented from handing over title deeds to beneficiaries from Ivory Park after protesters, dressed in ANC regalia interrupted the event.
This forms part of 90 title deeds which to be handed over to excited beneficiaries, which included a number of elderly persons.
The event was also meant to serve as a platform for the Department to address key concerns held by the community, particularly, the development of plans that will address those needs.
“The Title Deeds Programme is one of the key priorities of this administration and as a government that delivers, the department sought to ensure that our residents were given the dignity of owning a home. The ANC’s conduct at today’s event is yet another illustration of their disdain for our residents and their needs,” said the MMC.
Despite the ANC’s unacceptable disruption of the event, the City was able to distribute 60 title deeds in total. The City is making additional arrangements to ensure that the remaining beneficiaries receive their title deeds.
The new multi-party coalition government will not allow the ANC’s thuggery to stop the change which we are bringing to the residents of Johannesburg.
The Department will be addressing the matter with our law enforcement officials investigate the matter.
