The City of Johannesburg is facilitating a process of releasing properties which will assist provincial government in their quest of constructing more schools around the province.

The core mandate of the City does not include the provision of education however we are greatly concerned by the lack of educational facilities which resulted in Province working overtime to place approximately 30,000 children through schools in January 2018, roughly 17,000 of these were due to preferred schools being fully capacitated.

Despite many of these being allocated this has resulted in overcrowded class rooms across Gauteng, many children being schooled quite some distance from their homes and some children who still remain at home unallocated to schools.

As a City we believe that education is the key to unlocking the potential our youth has to offer and in order to achieve a society rich in entrepreneurs and economic growth as well as a reduced youth unemployment rate we must support the education of young people within Johannesburg.

In light of the above Council recently released the following properties to Gauteng Province in order for them to be able to provide proper educational facilities to the local communities:
ERF 1264 Pennyville Extension 1
ERF 3256 Lehae Extension 1
ERF1287 Commercia Extension 34
Portion 38 of the farm Turffontein 100 IR

The City of Johannesburg is delighted to donate and transfer land to Gauteng Province in order to assist the Province in addressing the urgent need of enhancing the education system for a better future for all and confirming its commitment to the Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba’s, ten point plan.
