The City of Johannesburg’s Sport and Recreation Directorate within the Community Development Department in partnership with Stillwater Sports, will be hosting the 2018 Totalsport Women’s Race on the 9th of August at the Mary Fitzgerald Square. The purpose of this event is to promote mass participation and a healthy lifestyle amongst women in the City.
The race is part of National Women’s Day celebrations, and is also in support of all women who are affected by breast cancer.
The race is a symbol that Joburg is a City that cares. 8000 women have registered for, and are expected to participate in the race.
The race will start and finish at the Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, and participants can choose between a 5km or 10km run/walk.
The race is an inter-departmental collaboration within the City. The Health Department will be responsible for health screening on the day of the event, while the Arts and Culture directorate will avail Museum Africa for the collection of race packs, starting today, Tuesday the 7th of August 2018. The Citizen’s Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) team will assist with the clean-up campaign in a park that is on the route the runners will be taking.
The clean-up campaign has been organised in line with the City’s A Re Sebetseng campaign to ensure that the runners have a wonderful experience of the City.
Employees from Sport and Recreation, Region F, CRUM, and the Health Department will participate in the clean-up of the park. They will be joined by Ward Councillor, Alex Christian who has assisted by organising brooms and refuse bags from Pikitup.
