A hijacked property was identified yesterday in Jeppestown by the operation #BuyaMthetho team.
The details of the property have been handed over to the City’s Group Forensic and Investigation Service (GFIS) for further investigation.
The operation focused on the Mayfair and Jeppestown area. 16 section 56 notices were also issued the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) during the operation.
Level 3 electricity disconnections were also affected to 19 properties and 20 water level 3 disconnections were effected during the operation. I have instructed the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) to monitor these properties and ensure that services are not illegally reconnected at these sites. If they are reconnected the owners will be arrested immediately.
Since the operation began, we have arrested 09 people for illegally reconnecting services that was previously cut off.
I have every faith that the JMPD, working with our law enforcement partners, will do all it can to ensure lawbreakers are held to account.
The City, working with all state enforcement agencies, will not leave any stone unturned when dealing with criminal activities within our area of jurisdiction.
