Crime-fighting in the City of Johannesburg is set for a major boost.
This comes as 11 officials from the City’s Public Safety department underwent an intense two-week course on how to combat cyber-crime.
The officials are ready to implement their new-found knowledge on fighting cyber-crime following their completion of the training programme, which was held in China.
With the City of Johannesburg increasingly moving towards digitalisation, and the advancement of technology taking place at such a rapid pace, it is imperative that the City mitigates any risks that may emerge from the growing dependence on cyber net.
With the growing threat of cyber-crime, the City found it necessary for the department to advance its knowledge of how to combat cyber-crime.
As the world’s second largest economy, with a growing cyber-based economy, the City felt it worthwhile to send our officials to China for training.
The training which commenced on 1 July 2018 at the Chinese National Police University in Beijing focused on:
● How to do security risk assessments
● Cyber Crime investigating strategies
● Combining Cyber Crime investigations with technology
● Analysis of Cyber Crimes (technology clues analysis)
● Technology of Cyber Crime attack and defense
● Cyber Crime and Forensics
JMPD Superintendent Eugene Bezuidenhout, who was the delegation leader, was impressed with the level of knowledge that was acquired by his team.
He said: “I must commend China for their hospitality. The effort they put in to make us feel welcome and comfortable was exceptionally higher than expected. The training was of the highest standards, informative and constructive. Even though most of the topics and presentations were presented in Chinese and interpreted in English, it was understandable. It was worth attending the training.”
He continued: “Our surroundings were pleasant and the views were admirable. The tours we took were memorable and there culture was very fascinating. Attending this training created a platform for us to build strong relationships with the Chinese National Police University.”
“The training and stay in China is highly appreciated and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parties involved that made it possible for us to attend.”
