Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development in the City of Johannesburg wishes to congratulate Rameez Khan for winning the e-learning quiz piloted in the Eldorado Park Ext 5 Library (Ward 18) in Region G.

“I am so proud of Rameez, and would like to encourage other leaners to follow in his footsteps and strive for excellence” stated Sifumba.

Rameez is a Grade 8 learner from Lenasia Muslim Primary School who participated in the pilot programme. Rameez was competing with 11 other learners from the same school.

The e-learning quiz was part of an e-Learning programme with free WiFi in the library where the learners were exposed to, among others, using laptops and online software available in the library to gain knowledge on a variety of subjects including digital literacy, social sciences and environmental issues. During the programme the learners were also introduced to Coding (computer programming for beginners).

The quiz was based on the topics covered during the programme, and Rameez came tops with a score of 98%.

E-learning is one of the programmes implemented by the Library Information Services (LIS) directorate of the City to ensure that the residents are informed using the available technology at the City libraries. The e-learning programmes help the City to bridge the digital divide, and responds to the pro-poor agenda of the current government.

Rameez will be competing against two regional winners in the final rounds scheduled to take place sometime in April.

“I am encouraged by the youth’s use of our libraries through mediums they find exciting and relevant. I encourage parents in all regions to find out about such programmes in their areas, and to enrol their children. This is one of the ways the youth can be kept busy constructively” stated Sifumba.
