MMC for Housing, Cllr Meshack van Wyk, will conduct an oversight visit tomorrow at the recently completed accommodation units located at Wembley Stadium.

After considering the unsustainable living conditions in the tents, the Department resolved to provide 70 prefabricated units with full ablution facilities, running water and electricity as a remedy to the matter.

Affordable and safe accommodation remains a challenge for the City. However, the City’s multiparty coalition government is making headway through the inner city rejuvenation.

The City remains committed to providing dignity to our residents. While we are not able to accommodate all of the residents during this phase, it is a good start in improving the poor living conditions of 30 000 residents residing in bad buildings.

The details are as follows:
Date     :           Thursday, 12 July 2018
Time    :           10:00
Venue  :           Wembley Stadium, 106 Turfontein Road, Johannesburg CBD

There will be opportunities for photographs and interviews.
