The City of Joburg has a total of 58 pools across the City. Of these pools, 8 are heated, and the rest are cold pools.
The heated pools are open throughout the year, while the cold pools are open from September to the end of March. This year, due to the problems experienced in December where most of the pools had to be closed, the City extended the swimming season by one month to the end of April.
As the cold pools are closed at the end of April, the City will carry out required repairs and maintenance essential to ensuring that there are no disruptions that will cause the closure of the pools during the swimming season.
The department will be embarking on swimming galas in May in the heated pools across the City to create and encourage a culture of aquatic sports, especially in the previously forgotten areas of the City. Participation in the galas is encouraged from school children and youth in line with the pro-poor development agenda of the City.
Below are the details of the swimming galas:
Swimming Pool: Linden Swimming Pool: Pimville (Soweto)
Date: 27 May 2018 Date: 28 May 2018
Time: 09:00 to 15:00 Time: 09:00 to 15:00
These details will also be communicated at all the City facilities involved. I encourage members of the public to be on the lookout for posters relating to these events and to participate in these galas.
