Phoning the City’s call centre will get easier from today, when a new number comes into effect – 0860 Joburg.
FROM today, you’ll need to dial a new number to get through to Joburg’s call centre: 0860 Joburg or 0860 56 28 74.

Smart CityThe municipality said that the new number would “allow customers an opportunity of a line that is easy to remember”.

City spokesperson Kgamanyane Maphologela said the new number was “permanent” and not bound to any location.

It was hoped the number would provide instant and easy access to all of the City’s call centres. Maphologela said the City strived to improve customer services and the new call centre number was part of the plan.

“By introducing the new contact telephone number, 0860 Joburg, we are creating a stable, secure and shared platform to communicate with our residents … We know that our residents have had a tough time getting in contact with us, hence the introduction of a contact telephone number that they will never forget.”

The number used an alpha-dialling code, which meant one could dial 0860 Joburg without having to memorise the digits. “You can use letters on the dialling notepad instead of numbers that correspond with the City’s telephone number when encoded on a numeric keypad.” The new number 0860 Joburg will provide instant and simple access to all our call centres for QWERTY and smart phone users.

It was meant to bring relief to residents. Queries and comments would be communicated to the municipality effectively and accurately, ultimately improving service delivery, Maphologela said.

At the call centre, people can get information from the City, lodge general queries and account queries, and report service interruptions.

“We want Joburg residents to know that we share a collective vision and responsibility. We know that there are challenges, but if we work together as a united force we can overcome these challenges and build a world-class African City,” Maphologela said.

The City would promulgate the contact telephone number on Friday, 1 June.

Customers with queries can call the new number, 0860 Joburg or 0860 56 28 74; or email joburgconnect@joburg.org.za. The call centre is a 24/7 service that logs all customer queries and complaints regarding all City services.
