SCHOOLS close for the cold winter holidays tomorrow, but your children don’t have to be bored. During the June holidays, City libraries have planned a range of fun educational activities for young children and teenagers, through its initiative, A Reading Holiday @Your Library.

It comprises mind games, sports, indigenous games and storytelling. They activities are designed to allow children the space to be creative.
Region B
Baking and icing is the name of the game at Linden Library, where there will be nice icing, story time and other creative activities on 27 June from 3pm to 4pm. Children between the ages of four and nine are welcome.
Parkview Library hosts the Drum Tales and story time. Children between the ages of four and eight are invited to attend an interactive story time and participate in some drumming fun. It all starts at 11am.
There will be story times and a variety of creative activities at Blackheath Library on 28 June, starting at 10am. It will cater for children between the ages of three and 12.
On the same day, the Bosmont Library will host story time and a variety of games, including playing pool. The fun begins at 11am for children between the ages of four and 16.
Region C
Pikitup will teach children about a variety of environmental issues at Florida Library on 26 June. It is open for children from the ages of five to 15.
Young animal enthusiasts should visit the Weltrevreden Park Library on 27 June. Staff from the Johannesburg Zoo will be there to teach children about animals. This is for children of three to 10 years old.
The clowns are invited to the Olivedale Library, where there will be a competition to make the best edible clown. Doors open at 10am, this is for children from two to six years old.
Those children between three and five years old who love colouring can get to Davidsonville Library on 27 June.
Region D
There is an opportunity to learn more about the digital world of computers, through the Computers for Children programme to be held at Emndeni Library at 10am on 23 June. Participants must be between the ages of 12 and 18.

At Chiawelo Library, children between the ages of seven and 13 will be able to learn about safety on 26 June. This is in observation of Child Safety Week.
For active bodies, there will be indoor games on 30 June at Diepkloof Zone 1 Library, for children of five to 10. At Dobsonville Library, children will enjoy listening to favourite stories, such as Tselane, starting from 10 am on 6 July. It is open for children of seven to 14.
Region E
At River Park Library there will be beading workshops on 25 June from 11am, for children between ages of four and 10. They will learn how to make necklaces, bracelets and other items. Teens from the ages of 11 to 18 are invited to games and other fun activities, starting at 10am on 26 June at the same venue.
Also at River Park Library, those who love mind games are invited over at 11am. Games such as ludo and snake and ladders will be played. This is for children of six to 10. On 29 June, there will be an all-day soccer tournament for people of all ages.
Region F
The Johannesburg Zoo will bring a flurry of animals to South Hills Library for children to touch and discover. It will take place of 28 June for children between the ages of three and 13. There will be more teachings about wild animals on 2 July, for children from three to 16, and the movie Babe the Sheep Pig will be screened on 6 July, for the same age group.
Region G
At Eldorado Park Extension 2 Library, a variety of indigenous games, such as diketo, will be played on 10 July. Participants must be of aged between six and 10.
And across at Eldorado Park Extension 5 Library, there will be a Youth Month Drawing Competition. It begins at 10am and is open to children from the age of 10 and upwards.
Those who love playing with words should head for Eldorado Park Extension 5 Library. Games such as word building will be on the menu. The activities start at 10am. It is open to children from the age of 10 and up.
