More than a million people turned out to vote in Johannesburg. Of the 130 wards, 85 were won by the ANC.
CONTROL of Johannesburg has remained in ANC hands after the local government elections on Wednesday.

The party won 58,85 percent, or 1 272 354, of the votes cast, staying ahead of the Democratic Alliance with 34,62 percent, 752 304.

In total, 20 political parties and one independent candidate contested the 130 wards in the city. Of these, 85 went to the ANC and 44 to the DA; the Inkatha Freedom Party won a single ward.

Over 1,1 million people out of a total of 2 010 121 registered voters turned out to cast their ballots in the local government elections. For more information on the election results, visit the Independent Electoral Commission website.
