Recreation centres have activities laid on to keep city schoolchildren entertained over the winter holidays. There is sport, art and culture on the go.
THE winter school holidays are upon us and the City has a packed programme of activities to keep youngsters fully entertained – and warm.
Tennis is also on offerTennis is also on offerA range of sport, art, culture and heritage activities are on offer at recreation centres across Joburg. There is something for everyone, and children can choose from rugby, football, tennis, volley ball, netball and indegenous games, among other activities.
For something more relaxing, there are fun sessions such as finger board, pool games, belly dancing and painting.
Jabu Nkosi, who is responsible for networks and stakeholder enhancement in the City’s community development unit, said the holiday programme would keep children busy and so prevent them from loitering on the streets.
“The activities will give schoolchildren the chance to try out new activities and really increase their skills levels, while meeting new people,” said Nkosi.
Government schools closed for the winter holidays on 24 June, and will reopen on 18 July. The programme runs to Friday, 15 July.
