The City is throwing a huge party for orphaned and vulnerable children, with jumping castles, live performances and loads of fun.
ORPHANS and vulnerable Joburg children will soon celebrate the biggest bash of their year at the annual Mayoral Every Child’s Birthday Party, to be held on 10 December at Innes Free Park in Sandton.
Hosted by the orphans and vulnerable children unit in the City’s human development department, it will cater for about 1 300 children, who have been invited from 118 NGOs and early childhood development centres.
According to a City spokesperson, Thembelihle Radebe, the party is held to acknowledge children who might not have a birthday celebration, or even know their dates of birth. At this party, they are also given an opportunity to enjoy a birthday party to its fullest with other children.
The party will begin at 9am with breakfast, followed by a birthday message from Executive Mayor Parks Tau, and the cutting of the birthday cake. Then it’ll be time for fun and games, jumping on the giant jumping castles and swinging on the merry-go-rounds.
Various celebrities will also perform live. At lunch, each child will be given a gift and a party pack to take home.
The day – 10 December – is also the last day of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.
