About 2 600 law enforcement officers are employed by the metro police to keep residents safe and enforce by-laws.
Their work focuses mainly on dealing with crime and violence, as well as on managing road safety and law enforcement. They play a crucial role in ensuring safety at individual and community levels.
In enforcing by-laws, they teach street traders how to run their businesses in a clean and healthy environment, and without obstructing pedestrians. The officers’ visibility contributes to the reduction of crime and road accidents and reflects positively on service delivery.
