City Parks is calling for nominations for this year’s Environmental Awards, in which people or groups are recognised for their greening efforts.
NOMINATIONS are sought by Johannesburg City Parks for the seventh Annual Environmental Awards.

Nominations should be for “individuals and organisations that have made a substantial contribution to developing a greener, more sustainable and better environment in Johannesburg”. The submission deadline is Wednesday, 5 October.

This year there are 12 categories:

• Community-based greening;
• Environmental education;
• Environmental institutions and support;
• Corporate social investment in greening;
• Media;
• Women in greening;
• Contractors in greening;
• Youth in greening;
• Inter-governmental support;
• Contribution to safety and security;
• Individual initiative in greening; and
• Greening ambassadors.

In the nominations, City Parks is looking for green projects that include the “upgrading of parks, development of food gardens, planting of street trees, cleaning of open spaces, provision of environmental education, protecting play areas and showcasing the critical importance of parks”.

The awards will be announced at the Theatre on the Track in Kyalami on 25 November.
