Tuesday is a national public holiday, when most of the country will be off work. But for Pikitup, the refuse collection schedule remains unchanged.
IT’LL be work as usual for the City’s waste management company on Women’s Day, 9 August.

The public holiday commemorates the day in 1956 when thousands of women of all races marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act, commonly known as the pass laws, of 1950.

“Residents whose waste is collected on this public holiday are reminded to put their bins out for collection by 7am,” said Pikitup’s communications manager, Pansy Oyedele.

All garden sites will remain open on the day for the disposal of garden refuse and recyclable items. Three of Johannesburg’s landfill sites – Marie Louise, Goudkoppies and Robinson Deep – will be open on the holiday. Only the Ennerdale landfill will be closed.
