A new leadership will be elected at the Salga provincial conference, and delegates will share experiences on service delivery and improving living standards for all.
THE South African Local Government Association (Salga) is holding its provincial conference over the next two days, during which members will elect a new leadership.
The conference, which is a constitutional meeting for all Gauteng municipalities, takes place every five years. This year, it will be held from 28 to 29 July at the Velmore Hotel in Erasmia, Pretoria.
It is informed by the Salga constitution, which stipulates that the “provincial members shall within a period of 60 days after every general local election hold a meeting of members to be known as the provincial conference”.
Local government elections were held on 18 May.
The provincial conference is a platform for municipalities to elect a leadership for Salga Gauteng. Other topics on the table will be crucial issues outlined in the Salga constitution and topical matters affecting local government. There will also be wide consultations with municipalities on matters relevant to the sector.
A new mandate for the next five years will also be released to the incoming leadership.
Salga Gauteng is a platform for the province’s political leadership to discuss and agree on future programmes. The provincial conference is regarded as one of the organisation’s main events, with the primary objective for leaders to share with and learn from one another on how to improve standards of living.
