Everyone is invited to the launch of Beyond the Wild Wood, the third book in the Stone Hills series from the wildlife sanctuary in Zimbabwe.
PROCEEDS from the sale of the book Beyond the Wild Wood will go towards improving the honey badger enclosures at the Joburg Zoo.

Beyond the Wild WoodWritten by Bookey and Richard Peek, the book will be launched at the zoo this evening.

Set in the beautiful Matobo Hills in Zimbabwe, it is about “the trials and tribulations of Badger, the Peeks’ hand-reared honey badger”, according to Candice Segal, the zoo’s acting brand and communications manager.

“The story … will make you laugh and cry. Although the book is about a honey badger, the author shares stories of other sanctuary animals, their life experiences and challenges of living in Zimbabwe.”

It is the third book in the Stone Hills series; All the Way Home was published in 2007 and Wild Honey in 2009.

All the Way Home tells the story of an orphaned warthog whose parents had been killed by dogs, and Wild Honey is about the rehabilitation of a honey badger.

Bookey and Richard Peek run a private reserve for injured and orphaned wild animals in Zimbabwe called Stone Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located in the north-western parts of Matobo Hills.

Segal says the couple care for the wild animals, and the books take a peek into their lives and the different animals they have raised.

Copies of Beyond the Wild Wood will be on sale at the launch and a percentage from the publication sales will be donated to the zoo to develop its honey badger enclosures.

Everyone is invited to the launch, where they will be able to meet the authors and hear first-hand of their experiences. The book will be launched at the Old Elephant House at the zoo at 6pm.
