​The City of Johannesburg will be hosting the annual Transport Month from 1 to 31 October.


This year’s theme is “Towards Ecomobility” focusing on encouraging walking, cycling and using of public transport to navigate the city.

A number of events are planned to take place across the city during the transport month, aligned to the theme of ecomobility, the city will launch the Non Motorised Transport route in Orlando on the 23rd of October, this route is dedicated to both pedestrians and cyclists.

As part of the City’s support for the Taxi industry an Awareness campaign and demonstrations of safe driving will conducted with the Taxi drivers at Baragwanath Taxi rank later in the month. In an effort to encourage use of public transport, the City’s Rea Vaya services will be R1 rand cheaper on all routes for the duration of the October month.

In partnership with Absa Joburg City Festival the City will be supporting the Springboks on their game with All blacks on the 4th of October with the dedicated Rea Vaya services to carry rugby fans from park and ride points to the stadiums.

The culmination of the transport month will be the Ecomobility Weekend in Maboneng from the 24th to the 26th of October, where the Executive Mayor will announce the hosting of a month long Ecomobility Festival in Johannesburg October 2015.
