2016 SA Hip Hop Award Winners: #SAHHA2016
After scavenging for tickets and delibarating on who was cool enough to attend the 5th annual South African Hip Hop Awards on Tuesday night, at Gold Reef City’s Lyric Theatre.
It is with great pleasure to announce myself and fellow collegue Lesego Montso as City of Joburgs MVPS. The City is taking great stride in supporting local talent, it is only right for us to write an article in honour of the sharpest tools in the shed.
The awards were hosted by actor Batsile ‘Boywonda’ Ramasodi and MTV comedian and presenter Nina Hastie, with performances by Gigi Lamayne, Stilo Magolidi, Kid Tini, Priddy Ugly, Family Tree, Maraza, and DJ Yanga.
Emtee’s outfit gave us a lot to talk about. With wings on his shoes, wings on his pants and wings on his jacket, he was a true definition of fly. Emtee also scooped up the Best Album of the Year award for ‘Avery’, Best Male and Best Remix for his collaboration with Aka and Wizkid on ‘Roll Up Re-Up’.
The Lyricist of the Year category was highly contended with A-Reece, who barely looks like he has outgrown the cradle, winning the race. It goes to show how age does not dictate the level of talent a person has.
Fifi Cooper, dressed in a stunning ox blood dress, snatched the Sprite’s Best Frsehman and Best Female Award. The Best Local Brand Award went to Butan wear, while Cassper Nyovest won the Most Valuable Award among a few others.
One last thing before we go, we would like to thank rappers for teaching us the art of stunting and humble bragging. If Joburg were a rapper it would wear REAL gold chains and the Nelson Mandela Bridge would be grills, becuase Joburg, is a proud host of world class events.
