A dip to cool-off the heat


Spring Day, the 1st of September, heralds the official opening of the City of Johannesburg swimming pools.
However, a number of swimming pools will remain closed due to both minor and major repairs that are schedule to take place soon. There are pools where contractors have already started maintenance work. Therefore, each pool will open as soon as contractors finish the work.

Pools that will be opened tomorrow, 01 September 2016, include, Coronationville, Kensington B, Linden, Newclare, Riverlea, Robin Hills, Roosevelt Park, Vrededorp, Verity Park, Windsor East, Windsor West, Davidsonville, Floride North, Little Falls, Dobsonville, Noordgesig, Orlando, Power Park, East Bank, Forest Hill, Hofland Park, Malvern, Moffet View, Pioneer Park, Rhodes Park, Turffontein, Yeoville, Eldorado Park X 4, Eldorado Park Proper, Ennerdale, Lenasia X 2, Lenasia Ext 5, Lenasia South and Linden.

Blairgowrie will remain closed for minor repairs but immediately opened at a later date following completion of work. Newville and Murry Park Pools are to be demolished due to extreme damage to the shell of the pools.

Those that are schedule for major repairs will delay opening due to the amount of work currently taking place include; Rabie Ridge, Brixton, Mayfair, Ochse, Florida North, Senoane, Moletsane, Diepkloof, Meadowlands, Jabavu, Rhodes Park, Malvern, Ellis Park’s baby pool, Pioneer Park’s baby pool, Turffontein, Lenasia Ext 5, LenasiaExt 10, Lenasia South, Ennerdale Ext 5, Eldorado Park Ext 9, Sydenham, Zoo Lake, Robersham, CrownGardens, Southern Suburbs, Orange Farm.

Cllr. Nonhlanhla Sifumba, MMC for Community Development said they were working tirelessly to make sure that all the work at other pools is done, therefore ensuring that the City’s swimming pools are open throughout the summer season, at least 5-days a week.

MMC Sifumba appealed to residents to be patient while work is being completed at all the affected swimming pools. All community based swimming clubs as well as residents are encouraged to utilise swimming pools optimally as well as act responsibly.
