An amazing Valentine’s Day experience at the Fountains
Love reigned supreme on Valentine’s Day at the Pioneer Park Musical Fountains on Saturday night.
Several love-struck couples, dressed in red and white, celebrated the season of love on the lawns of the spectacular public open space while gazing at the fountain light. With picnic blankets laid out under the stars, the evening’s balmy weather and the romantic symphony of sound of light proved to be the ideal ingredients for a perfect. Valentine’s Day celebration.
Melanie Walker, 24, and Bryan Lawthorne, 27, said they could not have chosen the right spot to celebrate their blossoming love which, by the looks of things, is headed for the altar in the not-too-distant future.
"It's so wonderful for words," was all Melanie could say as looked lovingly at her beau.
Phiwe Mthimkulu, 23, and Stan Nhlengethwa, 25, were another couple that could not keep their hands off each other. They said it was a thrilling experience to celebrate their love. "This venue is simply exquisite. It gets my vote for being the best love nest for young lovebirds in town," said Stan.
The Pioneer Park Musical Fountains, in La Rochelle, is one of Joburg’s lesser known treasures that offers visitors a unique evening of spectacular synchronised water, lights and sound shows.
Formerly known as the Wemmer Pan Musical Fountains, the light and sound spectacular underwent a refurbishment in 2011 by Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo.
Built in the 1960s, the illuminated fountains were an evening and social soiree hotspot for several generations until they fell into disrepair in the 1980s.
Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo regularly hosts open evenings at the Pioneer Park Musical Fountains.
