Being a loser is not necessarily a bad thing. In fact, in Johannesburg you can win fabulous prizes simply by earning the “Biggest Loser” tag.
All you have to do is to enter the City of Johannesburg’s 2015 Go Jozi Summer Bodies Weight Loss Challenge, launched at the Metro Centre in Braamfontein on Saturday August 22 and start shedding – or rather losing – a couple of kilograms.
“You won’t only see results in your dress size,” said Nomsa Nkosi, Supervisor of the City’s Healthy Lifestyle Programme and an official of the Health and Social Development Department. “Your self-esteem and confidence will also be enhanced, as will your quality of life.”
Open to all residents, the competition encourages participants to adopt a healthy eating plan and engage in regular exercise. The result is based on the amount of weight you lose and the decrease in the body mass index.
“Three participants who lose the most weight will walk away with amazing prizes. The winners, rather the losers, will go back home with amazing prizes, including tablets and smart phones. They also stand to win healthy cooking lessons, personal trainer time, jewellery, designer wear, photoshoots, pamper sessions and hampers,” said Weight Loss Challenge Coordinator Thoko Nhlapo.
On registering entrants are weighed, measured and photographed, and given an eating plan and exercise regime to follow. The participants will report for weigh-ins every week. The winners will be announced on November 28. Nkosi herself is a major beneficiary of a weight loss programme
“By changing what I ate and how I prepared my food, I gave myself a new lease on life. Diagnosed with diabetes, I really battled to lower my blood sugar levels. They were dangerously high and despite medication, they continued to climb.
“I decided to change my attitude and mindset and altered my eating habits. I lost a lot of weight. I now not only don’t have high blood sugar levels anymore but I’m also fit and look good,” said Nkosi.
