City of Joburg Mayoress scoops coveted award

The Mayoress of the City of Johannesburg Ms Pilisiwe Twala-Tau has been awarded the WAF-Think Gender Award at the Women Advancement Forum (WAF) conference taking place in Dubai, UAE from 4 to 8 October.

The WAF is a forum of 54 participating countries from across the African continent led by First Ladies of Political Principals to be the voice of the voiceless in championing women rights and gender equality in business, politics and society.

Twala-Tau, wife of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Parks Tau, was recognised for her work with the City’s Spousal Programme which is dedicated to uplifting women and children.

“I am humbled by the award and committed towards the advancement and empowerment of women during my tenure. I will motivate and inspire women to take charge of their lives and be the best they can be in their respective roles and aspirations” said Twala-Tau.

The next WAF Conference will be held in Sandton in 2016.

The City of Joburg would like to congratulate the Mayoress on winning the award.
