On 5 May 2017, nine Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers journeyed to China to attend an advanced training course for a period of two weeks at the National Police University of China (NPUC) in the City of Shenyang.
This additional training received by the nine officers will significantly enhance the Department of Safety’s capacity to fight crime and keep residents safe. These officers will return with deeper crime fighting expertise which can be shared with others at JMPD.

Through the engagements which I have had with the Police Attaché, Mr. Zhigang Wang, of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in South Africa, the nine officers will be introduced the Police Service in China and undergo intensive training on:

Criminal Investigation Procedure;
crime Scene Investigation;
drug Control and International Cooperation;
study credit card crime and associated countermeasures;
computer Crime Investigation;
handprint Development and Analysis Techniques;
footprint Identification Techniques;
application of DNA Techniques in Criminal Investigation;
analysis Techniques of Explosive Devices and Fragmentation; and
an array of other crime prevention skills.
This initiative will without a doubt assist the Department in our efforts to keep our residents safe.

NPUC has generously sponsored all the travel, accommodation and training course costs for all nine Officers.
