A complaint was lodged with the City in relation to the video, where the official is overheard racially abusing one of the newly-insourced security guards at Eldorado Swimming Pool.
Responding to the incidents, Mayor Mashaba said he was insulted by what had transpired.
“The City has worked hard to restore the dignity of our security guards through our insourcing efforts and they now enjoy decent wages and benefits. Such deplorable conduct is intolerable by all standards. There must be no place for racism, it must be condemned and addressed decisively. Racists must never feel that they can operate with impunity or that their behaviour is acceptable in many circles,” he said.
A case of crimen injuria was laid at a police station.
Mayor Mashaba emphasized the importance for residents to condemn racism and speak in a collective voice to overcome such misfortunes.
MMC for Community Development, Nonhlanhla Sifumba, will be following the disciplinary proceedings carefully to ensure that indeed justice is served when such wrongdoing takes place.
