The City of Johannesburg has suspended officials who were processing Pikitup’s fleet tender, pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct.

This comes after various households across the city were inconvenienced by refuse removal services due to the senior officials failed to manage the contract efficiently.
The officials (who are not Pikitup employees) were directly responsible for this function at the City Group Corporate and Shared Services department which processes the tendering process.
Should the investigation confirm the allegations of misconduct, the City will not hesitate to take appropriate action.
As an interim measure, the City has appointed officials to act in these positions to ensure the tenders are finalised as a matter of urgency and advertised speedily.
“The residents of Joburg can be rest assured that the multi-party government is doing all it can to ensure that allegations of misconduct are addressed and services are not interrupted,” said MMC for Group Corporate and Shared Services, Nonhlanhla Khumalo.
She said that the City is committed to providing a professional and efficient service to the residents of Joburg in the most cost-effective and consistent manner.
MMC Khumalo said disciplinary proceedings would be concluded in a matter of weeks.
