The City of Johannesburg will deploy its entities and enlist the assistance of the provincial government in its quest to uplift communities in Region G, the poorest of the City's seven regions.
On Thursday, during a service delivery oversight visit by Member of the Mayoral Committee for Housing Cllr Meshack van Wyk to follow up on service delivery issues in the region, which included, among others, Orange Farm, Ennerdale, Lenasia, Thembelihle and Slovo Park.

This visit by the MMC also included the Housing Committee Chairperson, Cllr Suzanne Clarke and City officials from City Parks and Zoo, Joburg Water, JRA, City Power, Health and Housing, to jointly tackle the challenges facing the region.
One way of improving lives within the region will be for the City to work with the provincial government to resuscitate the ailing Nancefield Industrial Park, which was a shadow of its former self as a result of neglect and vandalism.
At Thembelihle Informal Settlement, MMC Van Wyk was taken to a sinkhole and informed that a multi-disciplinary team would soon undertake extensive repair work that would require some of the residents to be relocated to safer ground.
The team briefly stopped at the Olifantsvlei Cemetery, which has already buried more than 6 000 people since it was opened on November 2016.
City Parks and Zoo officials told MMC Van Wyk about the scourge of vandalism and theft at the cemetery, which disrupted service delivery.
The next stop was at the Eldorado Park Old Age Home, which is a council-owned property. Here, the delegation listened to complaints from residents about the poor maintenance of the facility. The delegation noted the issues raised and undertook to take them up with relevant authorities.
MMC Van Wyk promised to prioritise service delivery and ensure that residents of Region G were kept abreast with developments in the region.
The City of Joburg's political leadership conducts service delivery oversight visits every month to ensure that bottlenecks are unblocked and residents are not shortchanged.
