The hush cold breeze affirmed the winter season on Women's Day, but this could not stop attendance of the spectacular Thando Thabethe Netball Challenge at Klipspruit Sport Centre, Soweto.​

This netball challenge, co-hosted with City of Joburg Sport and Recreation, confirmed that women can be in charged and pull off a well-organised sporting event, which after all, it not often in the sport sector.​

​In celebrating the Women's Day, the Thando Thabethe Netball Challenge brought young women from 22 teams to play netball in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Net Burners rose to the challenge and walked away as winners.

Thoriso Moime, a BA accounting student from the University of Johannesburg, said: “The games were fantastic, service was good and I enjoyed being here. Looking forward to next year's games."

For the proud and beaming Thabethe, it was mission accomplished. Everything fell into place and fun was had by all.
​“I am beyond happy and proud to say that this initiative, which has become the highlight of my year, is in its fifth year and will help change the lives of even more women. It is up to us, me​n and women, who have a strong voice to raise that voice in support of an equal society where women feel safe and empowered to reach for their dreams," said Thabethe.​
