It was a case of so close yet so far for our golden girl Nici Neal and her lawn bowls partner, Colleen Piketh, when they lost to Malaysia in the final of the Women’s Pairs Gold Medal Match at 9am SA time today.
The SA pair was pipped to the post 14-15 and had to settle for silver. This will add to their 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medal they won in the women’s fours lawn bowls with Esme Kruger, Johanna Snyman and Elma Davis.
They beat Scotland 18-10 on their way to the finals. This was before they deposed England 14-12 during a tightly fought quarterfinals match.
The Roodepoort-born Neal is an Assistant Director: Specialised Services at the Metro Centre. She started playing lawn bowls at the age of 25.
