The Linden Swimming Pool has been was closed to the public due to an electrical fault on the switch gear.

This switch supplies electricity to the main motor that enables the filtration and heating system to operate.

The decision to close the pool on Wednesday 28 February 2018 was taken because it was assessed that the water at the pool is unhygienic for public use, and as the City we could not expose our bathers to the unhygienic conditions.

City of Joburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Development, Cllr Nonhlanhla Sifumba, assured residents that the repairs will be attended to with the greatest of speed.

“I would like to apologise for the inconvenience and the disruption of swimming pool services to the people of Linden during this time. As a City, we are committed to offering services in a manner that assures meaningful redress. The closure is unfortunate, but the health and safety of our bathers is paramount. We will do our best to resolve this issue as soon as it is safely possible. The City of Joburg is committed to ensure the safety of bathers in its swimming pools,” said MMC Sifumba.

The Linden pool, which is 54 years old, is among the oldest pools in the City. The age of the pool is a contributing factor to the less than optimal operation of the pool. The Community Development department is working tirelessly to ensure that the electrical fault is resolved in the shortest possible time to allow bathers the opportunity to enjoy the pool during the swimming season which has been extended to the end of April.
