The City of Johannesburg’s Property assets entity, the Johannesburg Property Company (JPC) will host site visits for 71 Inner City Properties identified for development from Monday, 17 September to Friday, 21 September 2018 in a bid to attract investment commitments.
More than 30 potential investors and property developers visited three sites in the City’s CBD, Faraday, and Fairview today as part of the City of Johannesburg plan to auction 71 properties for development.

The tour forms part of the Executive Mayor, Cllr Herman Mashaba’s plan to rejuvenate the Inner City, create much-needed employment, shore up artisan skills training, and boost the City’s coffers.
The first port of call on Tuesday, 18 September was Samancor House on 88 Marshall Street, which also houses the City’s first Opportunity Centre, Khoebo, which has been put down for mixed-use development. It is a 12-storey building with retail space on the ground floor, basement parking, and offices from the second to the 12th floor.
The second stop, which is currently being leased by Mafoko Security Company, was the remainder of Erf 1015 City and Suburban property near Mai-Mai. The property is also close to Maboneng, the Doornfontein Campus of the University of Johannesburg and Boston private college.
The JPC has lined up more similar visits throughout the week to ensure potential investors familiarise themselves with some of the advertised 71 properties that are set to turn the Johannesburg Inner City into a construction site.
“Through these site visits, the City will engage developers and investors to ensure that there is compliance on some of the submitted proposals and these have to be re-advertised to the market,” said Helen Botes, the CEO of the Joburg Property Company.
“The visits will give industry professionals, investors, business leaders and decision makers from across the property sector and built environment an opportunity to gain access into the properties, view property drawings, structures and get a sense of the economic activity around various precincts,” Botes added.
The properties are in the neighbourhoods where land for development is available. They include Berea, City and Suburban, Jeppestown, Johannesburg Central, Marshalltown, Turffontein, Vrededorp and Yeoville.
The properties range in size from 178sqm to 14 732 sqm and are zoned in a number of categories, including educational, residential, industrial, business and public open spaces.
Through these visits and other engagements, the City will provide an enabling environment to assist developers to achieve their objectives and the City’s development goals.
Tenders documents are available for purchase for interested parties to respond to by Friday, 30 November 2018 at the JPC’s office in Braampark.
