As part of the 23rd Jozi FM anniversary celebrations, the radio station, in partnership with Soweto Theatre, hosted the second annual Soweto Day Festival in Jabulani on Saturday, 28 July 2018.

About 1 000 Soweto revellers converged at the theatre for a day of entertainment, live music and a screening of three movies set in Soweto from 10am until 6pm. There was also a fashion show by Soweto designers, arts and craft fair, and food stalls.  

The line-up of the festival featured the best of Soweto's talent and the music dished out ranged from jazz to gospel, kwaito, hip-hop and pop and had the audience singing along, moving with the rhythm and clapping along.

Admission to Soweto Day Festival was free. The movies that were screened included Sarafina and Winnie.

The aim of the event is to celebrate and promote all that is good and positive about Soweto, the people, institutions, local tourism, local businesses, social cohesion, lifestyle, arts, culture and heritage, said Bonginkosi Sithole, Jozi FM's Business Development Manager.

“The event is all about Soweto. We're promoting everything Soweto and also thanking our loyal listeners who have walked this road with us for the past 23 years. Through the good and bad times, our listeners have never wavered in their support. So today, we're saying thank you," said Sithole, who added that Jozi FM boasts a listenership of 629 000.

Dube resident Simphiwe Mngoma, who was accompanied by her sister and three children, thanked the festival organisers for putting a five-star show. “Ever since Jozi FM came on air, I've been tuning in. Even when their best DJs like the late Khabzela went for greener pastures, I always ensured my dial is on 105.8 all the time."
