The Joburg Theatre will tomorrow (Thursday 12 April) host a special tribute to Winnie Mandela on the Mandela Stage. The tribute will be broadcast live on SABC from 11h00 to 15h00.
Mama Winnie’s life will be depicted through high impact art showcasing music, acting, poetry, painting, dance, opera, musical theatre and audio visual expressions.The tribute is the initiative of Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Makhotso Maggie Sotyu in partnership with the Cultural & Creative Industries Federation of South Africa (CCFSA).
In line with the theme “Celebrating the life and legacy of an icon through art,” the arts fraternity will celebrate and revive the values and spirit Mama Winnie Mandela represents.
“It is an honour to be hosting the tribute to Mama Winnie on The Mandela stage at Joburg Theatre. The venue boasts an incredible 1069 seating capacity with a diverse stage that will accommodate talent across the board in celebrating the Hero that was,” says Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Community Development at the City of Johannesburg Councillor Nonhlanhla Sifumba.
