Joburg Tourism looks set to attract even more visitors to the City following the recent unveiling of the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) at the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton and an updated, fresh website and mobi-app.
The VIC is expected to become a one stop shop for visitors to easily find information about navigating Joburg destinations.
The upgraded, interactive Joburg Tourism website and the new Mobile App promise to present opportunities for tourism-related small businesses to list/verify their details and benefit from exposure on the site and other related marketing initiatives.
This is part of a drive by Joburg Tourism to make the City more attractive to visitors and contribute significantly towards achieving the economic growth rate of 5% by 2021.
Cllr. Leah Knott, MMC of Economic Development says the centre and the website will increase the City’s market share of global tourism. “There is more to Joburg than business. We are positioned up there with the best. We have been the most visited city in Africa since 2013.”
The new website will provide online tourism information. This is an indication that the City is embracing international technological trends to remain competitive in the digital space. Visit the website at www.visit.joburg.
One of the major selling points and key difference between the Visit.Joburg mobi-app and other destination applications is that any business can register to be on the Joburg Tourism database through the membership database platform and add their tourism packages. Once listed, the listing will automatically appear on the website, mobi-site and Mobile App. This is especially beneficial for SMME product owners to be able to promote their offerings on all platforms and devices.
According to the Mastercard Global Destination Cities Index, Joburg is the only city on the continent that has made it into the EUROMONITOR INTERNATIONAL’S TOP 100 CITIES ranking - ranking 37th [January 2017].
Joburg Tourism also currently operates a satellite VIC at Park Station. The new VIC is situated in the heart of Sandton, Africa’s most iconic square mile, and ideally placed for both business and leisure travellers who are key to contributing to the growth targets outlined by the City’s administration.
