Iconic Kwaito outfit TKZee is scheduled to headline the imminent Huawei Joburg Day in the Park at the Emmarentia Botanical Gardens, on Saturday, 4 May.
The legendary Kwaito ensemble is expected to perform hits from their renowned debut album, Halloween which premiered 20 years ago.
It’ll be the first time TKZee performs at this annual series, currently in its third instalment. Gates open at 9 am and the event ends at 6 pm.
Thando Makhunga, 947 station manager says Huawei Joburg Day in the Park will give revellers the opportunity to relive their 90’s, evoking nostalgia. “TKZee’s iconic 1999 album was the soundtrack for an era of freedom, diversity, creativity and unbridled possibilities for the ‘rainbow nation’,” says Makhunga.
Released in the summer of 1999, Halloween became a massive commercial cross-over success, catapulting TKZee into superstardom. At the time of its release, the albums represented a pivotal moment in South African music. It is now ranked amongst the country’s biggest selling albums of all-time, with well over 200 000 copies sold worldwide.
And now, on the album’s 20th anniversary, the trio promises nothing but the best for Huawei Joburg Day picnickers. “TKZee will capture the energy of the crowd,” says the group's leading member, Kabelo Mabalene also known as BuggaLuv.
Huawei Joburg Day in the Park is designed to regale Joburgers from all walks of life with electric musical performances. Other artists on the bill are Easy Freak, Holly Rey, Sho Madjozi, Micasa, Prince Kaybee, DJ Zinhle & Tamara Dey; Mango Groove, Sun EL & Simmy, Mathew Mole, Beatenberg & Tresor and Shortstraw.
The annual showpiece has quickly become a major showcase of excellent live performances from across the South African music industry and gives fans a chance to support and experience great entertainment.
The concert is organised under the auspices of Primedia broadcaster 947 and multinational telecommunications giant Huawei, with the City’s entity for parks and zoo providing the venue.
Akhram Mohammed, Huawei SA Chief Technology Officer says the tech giant uses the annual concert to reach out, connect and bring people together through music. “Huawei Joburg Day in the park is a family event and we can connect more even with the younger generation. It is something we are proud of,” Mohammed adds.
