Petrol-heads and daredevils will be treated to world-class motorsport over four days this month.

The City is hosting Southern Africa’s premier automobile show, the Festival of Motoring, between 22 and 25 August at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in Midrand.

This includes modern supercars, GT race cars, historic race cars and a large variety of V8 muscle cars to excite motoring enthusiasts. The Mobil 1 V8 race series will also be participating in two races over the weekend.

Leading industry-related after market and accessory companies will also exhibit at the event, which is in its fourth year and is hosted under the auspices of vehicle financer, WesBank.

Organised by Messe Frankfurt, the Festival of Motoring is endorsed by National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa and supported by the local motor manufacturers. It is the largest national industry supported auto show on the continent.

Show visitors will have the opportunity to drive various models on the dedicated Kyalami Handling Track or be professionally driven around the world-class Grand Prix Circuit.

The show will also incorporate a huge family appeal, featuring a large variety of catering areas, refreshments and interactive and fun activations including kids’ zones and a braai area, making it a perfect family outing.

“People love cars and this festival caters for those who look at cars for practical purposes, lifestyle and aspirations,” says Chris de Kock, WesBank CEO.

“We encourage all motoring enthusiasts, especially those seeking to experience the thrill of the various cars first hand to make their way to the annual event. The festival offers consumers an opportunity to see, touch, smell and interact closely with the cars of their dreams,” says De Kock.

The Festival of Motoring allows visitors to not only view or compare the latest models, but to jump in and experience the performance and handling of these vehicles on the track.

“The City of Johannesburg is delighted to host the Festival of Motoring. We hope it will yield positive spinoffs for our youths, who are the hardest hit by the unemployment crisis. Any investment ploughed into the economy of Johannesburg enhances the quality of life here, so we welcome it,” says Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development Cllr Leah Knott.
